All children develop differently. My eldest was sitting up at 8 months and my youngest was 6 months.

MOST babies will start sitting up between 6 and 8 months. And I say most because all babies are different. My son started sitting up at 5 months. Some babies won't sit up until later. This is especially true if they are on the chunkier side as there is more mass to coordinate into a sitting position. Don't be too alarmed if your baby takes a little longer.

My son is nearly 8 months and he's been sitting since 7 months but at first he needed support. In the last week or so he's started sitting on his own, but he still wobbles over sometimes!

Don't forget that all children are different. I had one that was sitting, and able to get into a sitting position on his own at 5 months, and another that didn't sit until 9 months and he needed help to sit!

babies can sit for a few moments unsupported, between the ages on 7 to 9 months. But please remember they are all different and develop at different speeds
