Hoping it would teach people to spell and punctuate. Some of this stuff looks like pre-schoolers wrote. I'm sure I'll get negative answers from illiterate people.

I agree completely! It is hard to take someone seriously when they cannot spell or use grammar any better than a child, especially when they are asking a question in the "education and reference" section!

You are so right. But I'm afraid it will never work, as this is aimed at the widest possible public...and elitism of any kind would affect the number of users to such an extent that it would cease to be one of the most popular places in the virtual reality.
Unfortunately, it may also fail to teach people anything: just do a simple search on how many times a similar Q was posted, and to no effect. I myself answered two similar ones just a couple of minutes ago...

Excellent question: it seems like the bad questions get the most answers and often the most stars lately. The trolls often get 60-70 answers, while the intelligent questions are ignored by the masses. Then those same people wonder why we have so many trolls that can't compose a sentence properly.

I wish all the really stupid questions could be filtered somehow. Maybe an age filter would help greatly.
The grammar doesn't bother me so much. I'm used to seeing people's grammar and spelling being so poor.

I think the problem stems more from text messaging - everything is abbreviated there. And then they forget how to spell and use punctuation here, I suppose.

You are completely right it seems stupidity is rewarded nowadays. Weird thing is there is a spell checker and people still decide to post their answers

yeah you probably will. but since you wont be able to read what they write it wont be a big deal... haha

the only problem with your suggestion is that it would require yahoo moderators to do a LOT more work than they already are doing. they would have to screen every question and see if it qualifies.

but that would be cool if we could do it *sigh*

Considering that there are four mistakes in your own entry, such an idea would not be beneficial for you.

This one is quite amusing! Who is judging me, I wonder? You say "Before you judge Teresa", so someone must be. That's ok, though. I have nothing to hide and a few hours to play around with before I must leave to go and tutor adults at the ABE.
