Def laminate, having had 3 kids I feel laminate is easier, cleaner and better for baby. When they get a bit older and you go through the usual processes it will be easier to keep clean and much more healthy as well. No dust and dirt gettng stuck in the carpet and no stains as its just washable.

personally i preferred my son to crawl on carpet, laminate seemed to always have specks of dirt that would get stuck into his little knees and hands no matter how often you cleaned it, Yes carpet will get stained and yes it does harbour some germs but you must not wrap your baby up in cotton wool, some germs are good in the help to boost immune systems! Plus a carpet can be replaced for little cost when your baby doesnt make so much mess. I have never had laminate and my carpets look fine and there beige lol. Buy non spill cuts and potty train with care lol

Go with the laminate. My mom had carpet when I was a baby and ended up having to get it removed and replaced with laminate because I spit-up and spilled things on it so many times. Laminate is so much easier to clean and you won't have to worry about allergens or bugs hiding in there. You can get a big rug to put somewhere in the house; like your bedroom.

I would do carpet first- and laminate later on- when youa re done having children.

Why? Soon the baby will be crawling- it will be really difficult to crawl on laminate flooring. We built our home and moved in when our baby was almost 9 months old....she hated to crawl on the stained concrete- and within 2 weeks, she was walking. I felt bad for her. Not that I mind her walking, just that the floors made it painful.

Carpeting will provide a padded surface for falls as well. We have carpeting upstairs.

Do laminate when your baby is bigger...it is much easier when you have an older child to wipe up spills.

I've got 2 children. Carpet with first, laminate with second. Laminate was so much better for various reasons, not only is it cleaner when they're crawling etc. the real bonus is when you're potty training. Any little accidents easily wiped up.

Laminate... The baby shouldn't really be a factor... It have carpet then you need a good hoover.. If you have Laminate then you need a good cleaner...

I just think laminate flooring looks better, but both are baby friendly

Good luck

Laminate for messes/spills. For the short crawling stage- uses rugs. Don't get carpet based on a short 2-4 month period of crawling.

Carpet
Benefits: Warmer, Softer/Cushioned
Less expensive than "some" hard surface/laminate.
Can cover lots of bad sub-floors.

Negatives: Holds dust, germs, odors, unless vacuumed regularly, more difficult to clean spills, pet or baby accidents, but good products are available if caught in a timely manner.
Professional Cleaning should be performed no less than once per year, preferably twice. Spot clean between.
Life expectancy is less than hard surface, regardless of warranties as one may opt to redecorate before replacement is necessary.

Laminate/Hard Surface
Benefits: Withstands hard wear better than carpet.
Easily mopped daily.
Rugs can be used to decorate or soften the covered area.
Spillages more easily cleaned

Negatives: Colder
Possible breakage of glass more often.
Must be vacuumed and/or dusted every day or more with baby.
More expensive than "most" carpet.
Installation more difficult/expensive
Sub floor must be better for installation than needed for carpet.

I can only suggest that you consider both. Laminate in entry and high traffic areas, dining area.
Rugs can be used in addition.

Carpet in bedrooms, living room.

got three kids under the age of four and we have just moved house and put a beige carpet all the way through the house, what a pain, been in three months and the hall and living room are shocking already! id go for laminate with cosy rugs.

I would go with carpet if you want your child to walk quicker, i've got laminate and my daughter would slide on it when trying to crawl and it seemed to take her forever to walk (2 yrs) i know of other people who've had same problem, but all in all laminate is better (less dust), least the child will have better balance long term.
