Because children's stories and fairy tales are intended to be uplifting and positive where the author is creating a fantasy land for the young person's mind where everything is beautiful except for the darker side of the story which shows that, in real life too, there are two sides...good and evil. As for example in the story of Snow White...this beautiful young Princess who succumbed to the evils of the dark Queen who became jealous of Snow White and set out to have her destroyed when her magic mirror gave her the bad news:
"Queen, you're the fairest where you are, but Snow White is more beautiful by far."
but, I digress.

Wow you're a real bundle of joy aren't you. Without dreams what would children have to look forward too. It's Peoples dreams and aspirations that drive the world forward other wise we would all be bordering on topping ourselves.
Every little girl dreams about the handsome prince and vice versa and just cos you haven't met yours yet doesn't mean others haven't.
don't be so down on life think positive next time you see a frog who knows !!

we actually looked at this in my lecture. It's about symbolism - if somebody is beautiful on the outside we are supposed to assume they are beautiful on the inside. So if it tells us a princess is the most beautiful in the land, we know she is the heroine of the story because its a way of telling us in a simplified manner that she is a good person!

Of course, we know thats not true, but it seems to fit in with lots of human nature though doesn't it. Like the worship of celebrities.

it's all about perfection. all aspect of the good guys must falls in the region of positive. If being handsom and beautiful is consider positive, handsom and beautiful they are. If happiness is positive, happy they are.

Of course it doesn't necessarily means its positive in real life too. Being good looking doesn't make a person better off then the rest.

Fairy tale and real world is two different universe

Do you really want to read about ugly people? I don't. I get upset when the stars of my favorite TV shows put on a few pounds.

Life is imperfect; I insist upon perfection in my fantasy world.

fairy tales are twisted like hansel and gretal where were social services leaving your kids in the woods..snow white the prince thought she was dead yet he wanted to take her home and keep her,for what purpose the dirty minded git,and why do the real parents always die its no wonder all the kids these days are walking around with asbos!!!

I hate fairy tells. They are WAY too cherry. In my opinion, if the story doesn't make you cry and if someone doesn't die, then it's not a good book. But I guess that's too 'depresing' for children.

Good question, in the adult world your right, but do you really want kids to grow up depressed, let them have fun, there's plenty of s**t to deal with when they do grow up.
