Voldemort tried to cast a spell against the owner of the Elder Wand with the Elder Wand. But the Elder Wand cannot be used against the owner of the the wand, so it bounced back. Too bad he was using a killing curse hey!

Sorry chocolahoma, but the problem was that Voldemort used the wand against the owner of the wand, not that the wand did not recognize Voldemort as its owner/wielder. Voldemort was able to use the wand for other magic with no problem, the problem came when he used it against Harry.

Protego should not have saved him either--The "Kadavra" curse was supposed to have no countercurse.

Any curse that Voldemort could have used would have either failed, or rebounded, simply becuase the Elder Wand did not recognize Voldemort as its owner/wielder.

Voldemort had crossed many magical boundaries, broken many of magic's "natural laws". In the end His Own magic killed him for it.
