Corvettes are divided by C numbers the C number identifies the block of vetts by years.
C1 = 53-62
C2 = 63-67
C3 = 68-82
C4 = 84-96
C5 = 97-04
C6 = 05-08
The stingray is a corvette as mentioned before. The stingray has no added features other than it is called a stingray and has the bling on the side that says stingray.
I believe only the C2s and the C3s had a few stingray versions but I would guess a new stingray will be made one of these days.
I own a 1980 corvette and I am restoring it as a street muscle car / track car. By no means is any corvette obsolete. I would say that the best deal on the market if you want to get an on muscle car is the 80-82 corvettes. You can pick one up for as little as 8k, but a 27 year old car should not be a daily driver.
The C3s are also great looking cars. You will get looks all the time driving a good C3.

In 68' Corvette did a major body change .Looking at the car from the front it resembles a Stingray with it's front fenders swooping up gave it a exotic look.One of the Prototype cars was called a Mako Shark . The mid 70s with the gas shortage the Corvettes where way down on power . In 76' the Chev.Pick up truck was faster in a quarter mile .GM Almost scraped the Vettes. but like Harley Davidson they made a big come back!

The Chevrolet Stingray is still being produced, but the Chevrolet Sting Ray is not. The last one produced was in 1967 I think.
