Polio has been so extremely rare in the US for so long that most orthopedic surgeons have never seen a case. What needs to be done? Any good surgeon can have a good chance at evaluating and repairing problems, regardless of their source. Look for a surgeon with top recommnedations from a doctor you trust, as competence is more important than experience with polio, which you are unlikely to find in the US.

Good luck!
