Any ideas how I would be able to help my friend get his rock band Sizen get a record deal???

They are a very professional band and are in the process of making the albulm with the finishing touches. They have fantastic artwork and a groovy website!

I dont know how we would go about it though. I mean, we could approach companies like Sont etc but they get millions of requests a day so how would we make them stand out?

Why don't you bypass the record companies completely?

There is a new service called "Tune Core" where you can put your bands tunes on iTunes and several other music download websites for an extremely modest fee. I plan on doing this myself when I get some material properly recorded and COPYRIGHTED (don't forget to do this for each individual song!). I recently learned about this, and I think its a GREAT idea - why not have the band keep the money? I'm surprised they don't know about this already.

Also, you should post a link to the band in your question so other people can check 'em out - like me! I'm a blues-rock guitarist, so I like to check out other bands.

Yup, with all due respect What is the point?, okay if they are any good and have a good folowing + tons of plays EVERY DAY on there myspace they should be able to attract indie labels, just mail out a cd+dvd+bio and list of gigs preferebly in london - make sure that the band can get a good crowd that is responsive, look outside the box make phone calls hastle the labels until they listen to the CD in front of you if possible, once they get this indie label , they may be given a few thousand pounds to make cd with, if the labels is bad one this money will also be used to promote the band - this money will be expected to be paid back with album sales - if not the band will disband end of it happens all the time
Best thing to do is gig gig and gig, if it's about the money more money will be made selling t-shits and cd's at gigs than you will ever get from CD's through a label !!!create your own buzz and reap the rewards for yourself and be proud that you have no one to thank but yourself!
