Hey Lil Me!
Yes, I am seeing one now. If you are seeing a quality doc then you should have a fantastic time. Mine is the 14th doctor I have seen about some health issues that have been snowballing over the past 7 years and none of the moron MDs ever knew how to address. But then again...I was looking for a CURE, not to keep taking more and more drugs to 'control symptoms'. And we all know...MDs practice DRUGS and symptoms control and NDs practice NATURAL solutions and let's correct the underlying problem.
What to prepare for? Be prepared to be LISTENED to. :) Be prepared not to be kicked out after 5 minutes with the doc. Usually they spend a lot of time listening to you and understanding your symptoms! Because you are paying for GOOD care....use the time wisely....I made a list of all the things I wanted to discuss with him. Yes, it may be expensive but it's worth every single penny since there is no way in hades that you could ever dream of getting good care like that from an MD. My doc has his own label of supplements and a few times he's replaced with this brand. http://thecatalog.com/ He assured me they were quality and a good equivalent...okay...so...I changed all my supps to the NOW brand and they are only 1/3rd of the docs price. :) I still feel fantastic. I get them on this site or at my local grocery store. I get my meds that I need from the doc. I have never felt better.
And ask lots of questions...if they want to put you on something....ask why and then write it down! That way you don't forget anything from your visit!
Also depending on what is wrong with you...it's not going to be a quick fix. I have been working with my doc for 4 months and know we will be addressing my issues for at least another year before I go on normal care. Be patient. Give it time. Your body will be rebuilding it's cells and systems...healing on it's own.
Your health is the best investment in life. You deserve to be treated with the greatest respect and not like a disruption to anyone's day. :)
GOOD LUCK!! I will be thinking of you!!

Don't expect a quick fix. A naturopathic doctor will treat you as an individual and look for the root cause of your problems, not just treat the symptoms. They will treat you with natural medicines and treatments which will build up the systems that are damaged or lacking to help your body's own abiltiy to heal itself. The treatment that they give you is not likely to have the harmful side effects that conventional medicine sometimes has. It often takes longer before you feel you better than with conventional medicine, but it is worth it in the long run.

Just as in any other branch of medicine there are excellent health care providers and quacks. Try to make sure that the physician you are seeing has good credentials and has graduated from one of the accredited naturopathic medical schools. Many people go to naturopaths as a last resort after trying everything conventional medicine has to offer. Good luck and good health!

It is sad to read the statement of Michele,.. because it exemplifies the ignorance that still exits amongs so many in modern society with respect to the nature and science of "True Healing". ......
I have worked with a naturopathic physician before and my experience and the results were excellent. The problem I went seeking help for was addressed in a very professional and thorough manner and I could not have been happier with what I recieved.
Naturopaths are extremely well schooled and trained as physicians of natural approaches to healing. Do not make the mistake of thinking that they are not as well trained as conventional medical doctors, because they are. ,,,,, They are not however indoctrinated into the pharmaceutical "magic bullet" approach to treatment, which conventional doctors most certainly are.
Naturopaths have extensive training regarding the nature and process of what could be termed a "True Healing Process". .... This is very different from simply suppressing symptoms,.. which is what the pharmaceutical model is all about.
You will most likely have more asked of you in terms of you taking responsibility for your illness and making whatever lifestyle changes are required of you in order to facilitate your healing process. ... This will of course be very different and more challenging than what you are most likely very used to with conventional medicine, whose approach is basically to find that little pill for you to take to make your symptoms go away. ... (the problem with this being that when you do that,.. what happens is that in truth the problem only goes underground and deeper into the body,.. only to emerge perhaps years later in a worse form than it did originally,.. and it is not at all recognised as being related to the previous problem.)
In my opinion,.. you are going in the right direction. Just remember as someone else here has already stated, ... there are good and bad practitioners in every profession. Check each professional out before you go to see them by looking into their credentials, training, experience and checking on what others experiences have been with them.
Be Well ....

The one I went to years ago must have practiced what he preached. Except for some white hair, this 60-year+ man looked like he was 40 tops.
The person who recommended him to me also look decades younger than he was.
It was years ago, so my memory of all that he did is spotty. The doctor used iridology to assist him in finding problem areas. He also had me fill out a form asking detailed questions as to what my symptoms were.
He then provided me with a detox diet to follow.
In all, he probably spent 30 to 45 minutes with me. Try to get an M.(ore) D.(rugs) to do that.
It's a really great experience.
Good luck and be well.

Caveat emptor: The vast majority of these folks are unregulated QUACKS out for a buck. They prey on folks who are desperate because conventional medicine hasn't helped. Some of them are desperate enough to pay these folks to placate them and give them 'medicine' which does absolutely nothing (save placebo effects).
Expect to invest a lot of money in nonsense diagnostic procedures and "tests", as well as useless homeopathic preparations which will do nothing to cure and/or heal any illness. Plan on hearing a good bit of pseud0-scientific rhetoric designed to more fully engage you in participating in a classic con. You are virtually guaranteed to walk out the door with the same "medical advice" that any 8th grader can give you (e.g., eat right, get plenty of rest, and exercise).
