DOG FIGHTING - It won't affect viewership, but it WILL affect the average fan's cheering. I mean, when you have one guy (say Peyton Manning) that is a classic all american kid without any run-ins with the law and you have Mike Vick (dog fighter) they're obviously going to cheer for Manning. Basically, all it's going to do is create a HUGE hatred for Vick and possibly the Falcons.
PRO BASKETBALL: I didn't watch it before, I won't watch it now. Nothing changes.
MLB: We don't know who is taking what and for how long. If we're supposed to hate the game today because there are a few people taking drugs it's really ignorant.... The older players (say Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, etc.) may have taken supplements too, but there really no way to go back and prove it. Basically, innocent until proven otherwise. (Once there is proof, it will be easier to distribute blame and asterisks).

you have hit on one of the hardest questions to answer! why , because it involves too many things to make the say it one way or the other!
There is a point that has to be made here though , if what you or i are doing is against the law, then we will pay for our crimes no matter what !
It shouldnt make a difference what your status in life is , rich -poor , if you did the crime and got caught and proven guilty , then do the time!
but in this country , if your rich you get club med if convicted and if your poor you will find yourself in jail for a very long time!
I find it appalling that one person can shoot another in the face and get away with it just because of staus. if i did that im in jail for life! !
the same goes fo rdrugs use, dog fighting , or even as low as fixing a game! !
Fixing a game is one that is usually very hard to determine that is actually was going on! Ref's have been known to favor one team over the other , but that never made it a fixed game! How many times did you actually see a bad call and nothing was done!!
i am and always will be a MLB fan! ! ! but its a place where its not the game any more its all about money!
At a Baseball game i was warned if i didnt stop making jokes about the ump i was going to be ejected..i didnt stop and i wasnt thrown out either , making fun of the umps has been going on since the game was invented! its all part of the game . good and bad calls alike.
rapping this up ...IF YOU DO THE CRIME >>>DO THE TIME just like the rest of us would have to! ! ! ! ! ! !

MLB- i love this sport so much, so i will never stop watching it. i do think that the commisioner should however enforce more drug testings, but i will not stop watching my favorite sport over it.
NBA- i used to watch basketball all the time, however in recent years i lost my love for it. i am dissapointed in the fact that there was an untrustowrty ref working, but no i will not stop paying attention to the sport because of it. i feel that even though it was something horrible that happened, basketball isn't ruined forever.
NFL- in the past i haven't really watched much football, however i am planning on watching it this season. Michael Vick was one player, ONE, out of all the guys who are in the NFL. so no, i will not forfit watching NFL over ONE player. Yes, i do believe that if he is found guilty he should be banned from the sport, but no it will not stop me from watching NFL.
Maybe im too much of a sports fanatic or whatever, but this is just how i feel. if i couldnt watch sports (especially baseball) i dont know what i would be like. Yes right now there are many problems going on in sports, but its okay, it will be all right.
Anyway, i hope this helps and i thought it was a really good question.

What Michael Vick has done off the field on his own personal time will in absolutely no way effect how I feel about the game of football. I am not a fan of him nor his team in the first place. None of the recent crimes committed by a variety of players in the leauge affects my love of the game.
Not a pro basketball fan - just watch when it counts if I can't find anything else on (in other words, if the Wings are out of the playoffs in hockey).
Baseball I love regardless - honestly in what sport is there no doping scandal these days? Not even golf is immune!
But speaking of doping scandals...it seems any more other sports are small potatos in the doping world when compared to the cyclists competing in the tour de france, wouldn't you agree? That's becoming a joke!

Nicklemouse, I just want to take this opportunity to totally disagree with you. Even if Vick is supporting dog fighting - which is a terrible thing to do - the NFL should not take such a significant action against him as banning him. Dog fighting has nothing whatsoever to do with the NFL. He has done nothing that harmed the game of football; if he had, then I would be all for banning him. Just as I don't think someone that steals from a grocery store shouldn't be permanently banned from working in an office, I see no reason why someone who holds dog fights should be permanently banned from playing football. He will lose money/career stats during any time he may spend in jail... and he does deserve to serve time. But that's about it. If other teams want to give him smaller contracts because of the risk he'll be gone in a cell somewhere... that might not be too bad either.

The only sport that seems to really be losing ground is the NBA. It has been losing popularity for years do to the behavior of the players. And finally when they seem to have settled down a little ( the players) they get a scandal like this. The NBA is going to suffer for a while.
The Vick scandal is not going to hurt the NFL at all. The NFL is just to popular and the actions of 1 idiot is not going to make people watch it any less. Especially since this occured off field/off season.
MLB will survive as well mainly because Baseball is so rooted into our history that steroid allegations are not going to have a lasting impact.

Football: I watch a lot of it, and I'll continue to do so. Let's say for the sake of argument that Vick did the things he's accused of. While I find those things reprehensible, they have nothing to do with the game of football, other than the fact that the person accused of them happens to be a football player.
Baseball: I watch a lot of baseball too. Steroids hasn't made my interest in it wane yet, and I don't expect it too.
Basketball: I don't watch much basketball at all. The controversy with the ref won't change that. I had very little interest in the NBA before this happened, and I'll have very little interest afterward as well.

I rarely watch basketball and this point shaving scandal will not affect how much or how little I watch in the future in any way. I rarely watch it before this incident, I will rarely watch after this incident.
Baseball I watch more frequently, but not avidly. While I think Bonds is a cheater, his whole situation has made me watch MORE baseball. I want to see history, whether it's tainted or not. When he's up to bat about to break the record, I'll be watching out of curiosity if nothing else.
I watch football religiously. All the dogfights in the world won't drag me away.

There will be no changes in the habits of true fans, they will continue to watch the games. No one likes some of the things going on in sports these days, but life goes on. I believe that Baseball, Basketball, and Football are bigger than any problem as long as those in charge are dedicated and work on fixing the problems. We will always be disappointed with some who play these games but not the game itself.

If you are a true fan of the game, you will still watch. There are going to be things that happen with athletes that we may not agree with, but that's life and it happens. I will not stop watching my sports just because a few people made same stupid mistakes. I'll still watch, I'm a true, die hard fan.
