American soccer cannot surpass the popularity of the other major sports simply because there is no history with the sport that people can have fond memories of. Soccer in this country didn't help bring a nation at war together as did baseball and football to help embed strong feelings for the sport forever. In the short term Beckham will bring massive revenue to the Galaxy with ticket, apparel sales, and television contracts. Each MLS city will showcase beckham playing the home town team thus generating revenue. MLS and all it's properties will earn alot of money with his status. Everything depends on how well he plays in matches. If he somehow gets the Galaxy to the playoffs soccer will have the attention of the nation especially the children who play the sport moreso than any sport in this country. I feel Beckham will be the start of an influx of all world players competing in this league and that affects the league long term. It's already started with the signing of Blanco in Chicago. 10 years from now I feel Beckham will be credited for igniting the fire that led to a much larger population of people appreciating soccer more than ever.

David Beckham Will Do Great Things For American Soccer. First of All More People Will Follow The Galaxy JUST For Beckham. But As the Growth Of American Soccer Goes, Soccer Will Never Be as Big as Football, Baseball, Basketball, and possibly Hockey. Because Hockey Is Mainly A Canadian Sport But It's Becoming Bigger in The US.

It will take more than just sex appeal to be anything more than a tabloid hit. The truth is that he is older and not nearly as good as he used to be. Odds are he will not be worth the money. I don't think soccer will gain but a small increase in popularity from him, and if he isn't that good, then it will have zero effect. I, for one, am a huge fan of soccer, but considering that Beckham or not, the best players in the world still play in Europe... I'll be watching them, not MLS.

He will make soccer popular for a while just like the world cup did, but after a couple a months it will be back to normal fans, right now he will make soccer popular then it will be back to normal maybe a couple more fans... However I think if america showed interest in soccer so would the fans. If they spend money on players like spain. england. italy.germany. and other countries soccer would be more popular in america. Noone likes to see their team loose and thats why people aren't fans of soccer in america because soccer sucks here

Nothing. Soccer will never be as big as baseball, football, and basketball here in the USA. Also, no sports figure or actor is worth that much money. I would give it to police officers, firemen, teachers, and soldiers.

Absolutely nothing, Americans still look at him as the way they look at people like Paris Hilton, they don't look at him as a soccer player.
