I know what you mean - I like my MIL a lot, but when she visits, she just shows up & doesn't bother to tell me she's coming, which is annoying, because I'm usually in the middle of 10 things when I hear the kids shouting "Grandmom! Grandmom!"

Maybe you can make a point of talking to her on the phone before your day off & letting her know HOW BUSY your next day off is going to be & that you have tons of errands to run - if she thinks you won;t be home, maybe she'll actually give you a day OFF!

Good luck!

Its not just you they are all like that! They want to make sure they have everyone there because they want a lot of attention.....Or was that just my ex mother in law? No I am certain that they all come over on everyone's day off. We used to pass her around one minute she would be under my feet, the next the exes, then the oldest child, and so on you get the idea! That was our way of coping with her.

I don't know, but she sure likes too. I mean I love my mother-in-law but on my days off when I'm just relaxing my husbands at work and the kids are at daycare and I just want to sleep it's just like go away, but sometimes when I'm sleeping she just comes in and starts cleaning which is good, sometimes.

I just don't let her know my work schedule or I say I'm on my way out with some girlfriends or something, but then she wants to come!

Learn from someone who lost their mother in law due to multiple sclerosis before we even got married, enjoy your time she obviously wants to spend time with you. I would turn back time and spend every second with my mother in law if I could.

She likes you...and is probably lonely.....take her to lunch...set limits thoughl...then in passing announce that you have plans for days off with your friends or something..be sure to share some days off with her on occasion...maybe once or twice a month...comes with the territory of being married.. you can do it!!!! :+)

Probably to bug you or to nose around. Tell her your days off have changed and tell her your days off are actually days that you're working. If she asks why you weren't home just tell her you went shopping or something.

It could be that she actually likes you. Or it could be that she is checking up on you to see how clean your house is, if you are behaving yourself while her son is at work or to just be plain nosey. It could also be she is scoping out your spare bedroom for plans to move in!

sorry dear, i know, it stinks. when my son was born, my mother in law came over unannounced every single day until he was over a year old. she didn't miss one day and she liked to come over really early. what if she showed up when he was napping, you ask? she'd go right in his room and wake him up!

You obviously haven't done enough to discourage this by being as obnoxious as humanly possible when she does show up.
