I am trying to destroy several boxes of old financial statements. Too many to shred and I don't have an easy/safe way to burn them. A liquid shredder/dissolver might be just the ticket.

Paper pulp is made with alkalai and cooking, but very slow. The better solution would be to take the boxes to a commercial shredding firm. Ask before you go if you can watch them being destroyed.

Get a shredding service. They can shred several boxes in a few moments. Plus the paper gets recycled.

Dissolving them by digesting them in acid will be by far the most expensive and difficult way to go. You'll have drums of toxic waste and getting rid of that is VERY expensive.

Composting is an option -- let the bacteria do the chemistry for you -- but it's slow. Very slow with some types of paper.
