In Rio de Janeiro. I don't know about Ipanema, but Copacabana is quite nice. I went to Rio a few years ago and it was a long stretch of white sand, plenty of room, lots of little stores and shopping places across the street. There were also alot of girls in thong bikinis and old men in speedos jogging down the beach, which was the only part of the scenery I did NOT enjoy. But the water was great, the sand was warm, and it was a great place.

They are both in Rio de Janeiro. Copacabana is in the South of the city and most famous for its 4 km golden beach. Ipanema is also in the South of Rio and is adjacent to the Copacabana.
