Did he set himself up for a fall?

Why was his security so poor?

He had it coming, but for personal, not political, reasons. So, his assassination was probably unjustified, being that it was a political action.

He had, however, taken some pretty dangerous chances, not the least of which being lousy security, although until Kennedy was shot, the security was a great deal more lax than it is now, so he can't really be blamed for not changing the status quo that had worked a long time.

His dangerous chances included the Bay of Pigs disaster, creating alliances with the Mob, and attempting to manipulate foreign policy in absolute secret.

The Bay of Pigs speaks for itself. Kennedy was far too naive to think that he could control the Mob. The Mob controls itself, and Kennedy was as expendable as anyone if he was no longer meeting their needs. (Not that I think that the Mob was behind it, but he was still taking a huge risk there.)

As for keeping secrets, well, we all saw what happened to Nixon two presidencies later. I don't think that Kennedy would have gotten away with it forever, either. He had made a lot of enemies in some pretty powerful places, and he would have been easy to expose because he thought himself to be invincible and did not take proper precautions to keep things under control.

I won't say JFK had it coming, because innocent lives should not be taken because of someone else's disagreement with their policy.

He probably didn't set himself up for a fall, but I think if I've read articles and understood them correctly, he was advised to not go to Dallas that day, not to mention ride in an open car.

I don't think his security was poor, for no one no matter how good they are can anticipate the cowardly act of a assassin.

This isn't my idea, but it's another theory surrounding the assassination of Jack Kennedy. The person presenting this idea brought up the fact that Kennedy wasn't very healthy, and there was a chance that he wouldn't have survived his first term in office, even without the assassination. He suggested that Kennedy, in order to spare himself a slow agonizing, and undignified death, had himself assassinated. It sounds a bit far fetched, but there it is. Something else to consider.

nobody deserves to have his brain scattered all over the place. it's what you call occupational hazard. being the president of the USA is a dangerous job. it has it's perks but it also has a downside.
