Staying in base 10, integers run consecutively with a difference of one between them. This is how the number system works, so take that as a given.
That said, 12 is six integers above 6, and so 6 + 6 = 12

its simply 12. why not go back to the basic of the very basic? Say you have 6 sticks. then you add another 6, this yields 12 sticks. that's why 6+6 =12.
By the way, even if someone shows a statement like 1=2 or 6=7, don't believe them, there are a lot of obvious ways that they made a mistake in their proof, like dividing 0... hahaha :D
