DH had cancer and went thru 2 surgeries and radiation .
Not one of our so-called neighbour friends came over to see us, call on the phone, bring a dollar store card, or write a note to see how we were doing . They knew all about it, so there was no excuse. They would just hide if they saw us coming up the driveway. Im so upset about it.

I guess Im just more mad at the fact that we used to party with these people every weekend, we had their kids play at our house for hours and hours, plus we helped them out when they needed it many times. Im just really angry. I would love to voice my opinion to them but I guess Im more of a lover....not a fighter ☺

Drop them their moral cowards and emotional cripples and mean into the bargain why should they pay for a card you might die and then you would be no use to them

Some people just don't know what to say or do when people are sick especially if someone has cancer. People automatically relate death to cancer. They just can't handle it so in turn they do nothing at all. Unfortunately this is pretty normal.

Don't let this eat at your nerves as it is such a waste of time and energy. You have enough on your plate right now and this is where you need to focus.

I do hope the cancer is under control for DH and that you all have beautiful years together.

Working in the health care field I see this alot. The problem here is that alot of people don't really know how to express their feelings. They look at cards or notes as not being enough, and words escape them. Unless a person has been in the situation themselves they usually shy away from it when it arises. It doesn't necessarily mean they don't care it may just mean they are incapable of dealing.

You need to realize these are neighbors and not REAL friends. They are acquaintances and there is a big difference between them and being a friend. I would continue to speak to them when you see them outside. As for hiding from you, if they are doing that, they may not know what to say. It would be nice if they would ask how DH is doing and if there is anything they can do to help. However, they may not be willing to help with anything. Neighbor vs. friend. Not the same.
