I think they might but I am not sure.

I think they can. They're starting to hit the ball again. Scoring more runs per game than they did in April. James is coming around. Hudson and Smoltz still pitching great. Just need another solid starter and possibly another arm in the pen. I think they can definitely do it.

I don't think the Braves will make the playoffs, either as NL East champion or as the wild card.

They had two months to catch the Mets when the Mets were playing sub-par ball and they didn't. Now the Mets are playing like the team everyone knows they are, and the Braves have fallen back three more games in the last 10 days. Further, the Braves have struggled repeatedly to beat up poor teams (getting swept by the Reds, for example). You cant make it to the playoffs playing .500 ball against the bottom feeders.

Braves management is typically excellent, but I think they're way off this year. The only move that seems imminent for the club is a deal that would send Saltalamacchia, Jo-Jo Reyes and another prospect to Texas for Mark Teixeira. The Braves already have pretty good hitting. I don't think another bat will make up for a lack of pitching.

The Braves have two, maybe three reliable starters. Smoltz has been excellent when healthy, Hudson has been a bit streaky but overall has put up good numbers, and James has been working on his consistency against some poor hitting teams. But I wouldn't get too excited about Carlyle. He's something like 4-0 against sub-.500 teams with a 1.29 era, but against above-.500 teams, he's 1-2 with a 7.5 era (or something to that effect). What does this suggest? That he's not a particularly good pitcher. Davies has just been awful all year and for pretty much his entire career. The Braves would be better served making a move for Jon Garland.

Additionally, the Braves need bullpen help. Wickman is about as unreliable a closer as you'll find. Soriano, their set-up guy, has been getting rocked. Yates, Moylan, etc., have been performing poorly. Hitting isn't the Braves problem. It's pitching. And right now they dont have enough pitching to even steal the Wild Card. Two weeks from now, the Braves will likely be in third place in the East, and have five or six teams ahead of them in the wild card race (they are currently fourth in the running).

For the Braves to win the NL East, they win need a 5th starter. They have one in this new kid, but not sure if he will be able to last. Kyle Davies did not perform to expectations. James is finally performing to last years standard. And a CLOSER. They should probably try for a trade of Otsuka from Texas

simply by fact the season rolls on, we can see the actual skills pop out of those communities and regrettably the Braves won't win the branch. inspite of the inconsistencies of the Mets, Phillies and Marlins, the Braves won't have the capacity to capture the Phillies who will win the branch returned. The Braves will although combat for the Wild Card. permit's wish McCann, Jones and Franceour can do their stuff. Pitching is high quality and Glavine would be returned quickly to returned them up.

They are 4 games behind the Mets right now but only 1 game ahead of the Phillies. They are also in the mix for a wild card spot but there are four or five other teams right there with the Braves. My take on it is this, I believe they will have to beat the Mets and Phillies to go to the playoffs. If they are not good enough to accomplish that I don't believe their record will be good enough to go as a wild card.

No, the Mets are too good. The Mets are playing better and have guys coming back from injuries. I do think the Braves are a front runner for the wild card.

I see the Washington Nationals winning the National League East, not the Atlanta Braves.

Go Nationals.
