Or do you respect someone who died from AIDS less than someone who died from cancer (or any other diease)?

Emma J, my poor little thing.

It's people like you I HAVE NO RESPECT FOR.

Who told you I have less respect for people who died of AIDS?

I don't generalize all people, and I don't judge people I hardly know.

If I was sure that person had had 40 sexual partners before contracting AIDS and dying, I must confess I would probably have less respect for him/her.
(Because such person led an errant life BY CHOICE...)

Anyway, if for some reason, that person made a deep impression on me before dying, then my view of her/him could change...

I asked this question because I KNOW NOT ALL PEOPLE SEE PEOPLE WHO DIED OF AIDS THE SAME WAY AS WHEN THEY DIED OF CANCER.

So, am I to be criticized FOR ACKNOWLEDGING THIS?

Or for asking this on the Internet IN A BOARD DEVOTED TO QUESTIONS?
(I know I wouldn't ask this in real life, unless I was very close to those people).

I think you're the one who should analyse your character, and try to change some atittudes...

What disease someone dies from has absolutely NO impact on my respect for them. Why would it? For one thing, even if you think sex is immoral, people get AIDS from transfusion as well. So I am not going to be quick to judge someone. And for those who DO get AIDS from sex or sharing needles, what is the difference between them and someone who smokes themselves into lung cancer or eats themselves into a heart attack? Nothing. They took their risk, and they paid for it. It was their decision. For the rest of us, getting a disease is often genetic or arbitrary. There is no basis for judgement when it comes to diseases. All I care about is the person and their loved ones.

I think you may deserve less respect for asking this question! Does that answer it?

Dude, people die from all sorts of things and we all gotta go one way or another... Why disrespect people and the way they live their lives? What if this person contracted HIV without having any reason for it? Such as a blood transfusion, rape, being born with HIV, playing sports, etc! So many ways to contract this disease, not just needles and unsafe sex!

just give people a little dignity and you will feel great about yourself too........

Death is a useless thing regardless of how someone died. The only difference i can see is that a person with AIDS could have prevented getting the disease but a person with cancer can not.

update---Ok,i retract everything i said above after reading Emma J's answer--she is right.I am wrong about the AIDS person being able to prevent it.

I lost a good friend to AIDS 12 years ago. She got it because she fell in love with the wrong man.
I think her parents were wrong when they told everyone it was cancer.
People with AIDS are no less respectable, in my opinion. They die a slow, horrible death. I was there when she passed & she will forever be in my heart.

Nope.
A person who died from AIDS is just unlucky to have a sexual partner with HIV. Cancer patients are just lucky their sexual partners dont have the virus. Having AIDS doesn't really mean you're a bad person.

A disease is a disease and it doesn't much matter to me how the person got it. I would not respect someone less because they died of AIDS, that is just crazy. AIDS isn't just a homosexual disease and people need to realize that.

You should respect and honor the person not the disease. Its a sad state of affairs when people are more concerned with the medical condition than the actual person.

This is going to sound bad, BUT If a person dies, If I know them of course I feel badly. BUT IF they die of AIDS I don't feel bad for them in the least. They were stupid enough to put the needle in their arm or have sex (UNPROTECTED) so I don't feel pity for them or sorry in the least. I DO however feel bad for the person if they contracted AIDS from a blood transfusion, or they were born with AIDS.

No I do not. It doesn't matter if the death was due to aids or cancer, they both deserve respect!!!

that's a dumb question.
what if someone you loved died of AIDS and your neighbor died of cancer?
what's there to respect anyway? they're dead! Mourn them! No matter how they died
