Let a = number of 1 peso, b = number of 5 peso. Then
a+b = 74
a+5b = 170
So 4b = 96
so b = 24, a = 50
.

Let a and b the number of one peso and 5 peso coins respectively. We are given that a + b = 74 and a + 5b = 170

Subtracting the first equation from the second, we get

4b = 170 - 74 = 96

b = 96/4 = 24

a = 74 - 24 = 50

So, we have 50 one peso coins and 24 nos. of 5 peso coins.

let x = number of 1 pesos
let y = number of 5 pesos

x+y = 74 (there are 74 coins)

x+5y=170 (value of coins is 170)

From the first equation, x=74-y, plug this into the second to get:

74-y+5y=170 or 4y=96 therefore y=24

if y = 24, x=50

so there are 50 one peso piece and 24 five peso piece
