Well, I can suggest other fantasy books that I've liked, as I enjoyed both HP and HDM.
Prospero's Children by Jan Siegel
The MYTH Series by Robert Asprin (a bit corny I admit, but loads of fun)
The Discworld Series by Terry Pratchett (a satirical genius)
Good Omens by Terry Pratchett/Neil Gaiman
and of course:
The Hitchhikers Trilogy (All 5 of them!) by Douglas Adams
-edit-
There are 35 Discworld books out now, including the Tiffany Aching ones, etc. I suggest you go to http://www.voidspace.org.uk/cyberpunk/pratchett_order.shtml to see an idea of where to jump in, as they can be read pretty independently of each other, some of them are connected. Just ask yourself, do you want to read a book about an incredibly inept wizard? Many average inept wizards? Witches? DEATH? The City Watch? An assassin? My personal favorites are: The Last Continent, Eric, Carpe Jugulum, Monstrous Regiment, The Fifth Elephant, and Hogfather.
I suggest reading Monstrous Regiment as it is a standalone.

Well, your corny comment has me a little worried, but I get great reading pleasure from Terry Pratchett's discworld series - Realistic Fantasy with a comedic bent. Some are just ok, two are downright awful, but there's at least 10 that are truly a great read (if you like that sort of thing). Best thing is, if you like them, there's about 20 to get through. Try Equal Rites or Men at Arms or Night Watch for a taste. If you wish to read them in order, start with The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic. I found them average (for Prathchett), and a little too word-play clever, but enjoyable nonetheless. A little dated now, bit The HitchHikers guide to the galaxy series is worth a shot as well.

Have you tried Diana Wynne Jones? She wrote Howl's Moving Castle, which was a great movie, and a great (but completely different!) book. I've heard her Crestomanci series are really good, too.
There's also the Thief of Attolia books, but I can't remember the author.
A lot depends on your age. My favorite SF/fantasy writer right now is Lois McMaster Bujold, and I love Terry Pratchett, too. Much more grown-up than Harry Potter, though, I think, but you may enjoy it.

Try books by Diana Wynne Jones. I would recommend "Howl's Moving Castle" and "The Chronicles of Crestomanci".

Have you tried Eragon by Christopher Paolini? Many Harry Potter readers really enjoy it.
This is their main website http://www.alagaesia.com/christopherpaolini.htm
