People automatically (around the world) usually believe you are trying to get something out of them. Is genuine generosity or only being friendly that radical of an idea?

Personally, I think that "being nice" is very under-rated. People think that if you're nice then you are weak, or you want something, or there's something inherently wrong with you. I wish people could see "niceness" as a strength (it's not EASY being "nice", esp. to those who aren't so nice! LOL!)...and stop taking advantage of nice people (nice people are easy prey for sociopaths and psychopaths and other personality-disordered people)... However, nice people usually have the ability to see beyond the darker things of this world, and to live amongst discord and misery and still find reasons to be happy and live in relative peace and harmony with others. Being genuinely "nice" does have it's inherent rewards.

no, not in my opinion. so many people are mean to put others down and build a wall of intimidation around themselves, but if you are genuinely nice to people just for the heck of it, people will notice eventually, and appreciate it. in our world today, genuine kindness has become rare, so be different! people will notice, and you will get positive attention for it.

Sure it is, and some people get offended if they don't get respect.
