its philosophy--those expressions are true to life and are intended to be lived by,in order to avoid making bad karma,
and giving the chance to make good karma. it also helps to understand reincarnation, because karma is said to come with us from past lives

Howsoever far, or wide, they may spread and fall, all human deeds scatter their seeds wherever and whoever they reach, and they most certainly leave their seedlings where they start, and when these seedlings then sprout upon a time most suitable, we hear see them echoes of what we did in the past.
Then all deeds affect at least one and therefore more people in life around because we all very closely identify ourselves with the rest of the people, this is the only way for us to know who we are and if we are right, or have been right. There is no way for a human action to escape from within the dome of the skies above. All actions have sounds and stronger ones resound all around, and then ones that get absorbed in the ground are the ones soaked in genuine sorrow and awash with human forgiveness
If this is believed to be true then that belief must be hundred percent, a principle, only then it will be of any good purpose to life.

Human beings just like putting expressions like this to events to make it all seem part of some great plan or story. Events are totally disparate and generally random but our human brains seek order and some kind of underlying reason so we stick phrases like this on so we don't notice that the vast majority of life is completely un-selective and random. Good things happen to bad people. Good people die young of terrible diseases. There just no reason in the world but we can't deal with that.

The statement is the quintessence of the theory of Karma written about in the Indian philosophical book called 'Bhagavatgeetha'. In this context I too had answered who the originator of the following quotation was, but I did not get a satisfactory answer: "It is sad but true, but mankind never seems to learn from its mistakes........and so history keeps repeating itself"

If people truly believed in what stands behind these expressions world would be a better place.
Egoists would do good for their own benefit (it would come back to them)
Good people do good already, without thinking of getting things back or of expressions that promise it

Your question should be: Is the statement "what goes around comes around" true? As far as the ignorance or stupidity of humanity, that is an entirely different matter...
