My 7 year old step-son tried to get out of a lesson yesterday with a letter that read as follows:

"Dear Mrs Horton, I am Johnny's stepmum, honest I am. Please let him out of school early as he has to feed the goats on our farm today as I have a sprained arm. Love from Johnny's stepmum (signed name)."

We don't have a farm or goats! The teacher rang up laughing her head off at this.

How can I keep straight face to tell him off for being naughty? (His father is away at the moment, so I can't pass it onto him, LOL.)

Take him to a farm and make him feed the goats

I would show him the note. Not say a word, just hand it to him.

Then ask him what an appropriate punishment is for this. Since you don't have goats or a farm, obviously he can't be condemned to goat feeding for a month. Perhaps a creative writing exercise, where he has to research about goats and write a paper for the teacher...and then at the end write an apology. Nothing huge, of course, he's only 7.

I'd also keep the note as a cherished memento. (*lol*)

Well, the good news is...-he's bright enough for two. (Is he perhaps channeling Mark Twain?) I have absolutely NO idea how you'll be able to keep a straight face. Does his teacher say WHY he wanted to be excused? Was it just a specific lesson he was avoiding? I think he's watching too many reruns of "Lassie" or "The Andy Griffith Show" or something. He's clearly very bright; and probably charming to boot. I forsee a lot of interesting "experiences in childraising" for you and his father! I'd love to know what he does as he grows up...maybe YOU can write a book; if you survive it all. Good luck! (And I thought MY son was a handful.... ) }:>

after you have a good laugh at the cuteness of the letter, get serious and realize the child is having an adjustment problem, he needs some friends and some attention and he's in his own little world. Inquire how he's doing in school, if he's bored, if he's ahead of everyone else or behind. If he still gets creative then take him to a psychologist and find out what's wrong. Usually children who are having problems make up stories or have friends that no one else can see.

LOL! When my son was 7 he came home from school with a note that read " Mrs ___, ___ is not feeling good and he will have to stay home from skool for 2 days. Your friend, Mrs ___. Written in perfect 2nd grader handwriting! Kids are so cute! I just told my son that I would've gotten a big kid to write it. He knew he was busted!

He has good spelling skills for his age then to write the word 'sprained'. Obviously his teacher would have suspected that. Find out why he needed to write the note and why he needed to leave school early, perhaps something is bothering him.

he deserves full marks for ingenuity!!!

dont scold your step son,try to talk to him in a loving way ,raising your voice will make him more rejectful.instead talk to him in a nice way and tell him not to tell a lie because sooner or later he'll get caught and next time no one will believe him.(just like the story-boy who cried wolf)
