"Shakita Mangham, 25, arrived at municipal court early Thursday. Furaha Love, 25, turned herself in at police headquarters a short time later."

"Love also said later that she knew there was no baby sitter, and that the children had been left in the care of two 8-year-olds."

"Her attorney Ernest Sharif has said the women left the children for 15 to 20 minutes and that Love had one beer at the bar.

"It wasn't a party thing," he said."

I would hope so given the similarities in the case. And just so you know, they are still in prison awaiting trial. Compare and contrast with the McCanns.

Brunelscooby - The minute you called me a media worshipper thus highlighting your ignorance .... you lost me. I suggest you educate yourself as to the take the media have taken on the mccanns, then compare and contrast them with my views, then ask yourself how much I worship the media.

Where is Maddie ?Did her parents teach her to read ? Will she ever get over this ? Is she still alive ? Where in the world is she ?This is what should be asked by everyone !If she is alive, there is hope, depending on what has happened, could she return to a normal way of life ? If she can read there is a slim chance that she can at least read a headline and know that everyone is searching for her,she will then have hope ! If she is dead then lets hope that the criminals are made to pay ! Let us hope they are captured whatever their crime towards her.The parents have to face the truth of the situation instead of deluding their selves. They will live in eternal guilt for being part of the means of instrument that has destroyed her life .I don't understand why these Parents went through everything they did to have their children then neglect them. They will pay the price when they return to England they are still British subjects. They are trying to escape the the arm of the law.In Portugal they cannot be arrested, because they are British. The British Police cannot arrest them because they are on Portuguese soil and they will live as Fugitives until the law calls them in for investigation, will they tell the truth ?The two cases do hold similarities. They could advise other people not to leave their children alone after what happened to them.I think they are parents who haven't bonded with their kids .They left them under the care of a nanny in England. Its a pity they didn't do the same in Portugal.

I suspect that the McCann's will get a light slap on the wrist and be told they have 'suffered enough'...

It's Maddie who has suffered.

The aerial photograph of the hotel complex would indicate that the husband and wife were a bit further away than '50 yards'.

Two doctors yet they could not afford the baby sitter service for a few hours? they didn't even take advantage of the free service offered by the apartment complex.

I have no sympathy for the two women you mention - you DO NOT leave children, AT ALL. But at least these women have the courage to stand up and say "I did wrong" and this should be taken into account during their trial and count in favour of their sentence.

As for the McCanns... Denying it was wrong does not make it right. You left your children and you should be thankful that you still have the other two. What will they think of you when they grow older and learn the truth that it could have been any of them who was taken and that your selfish actions cost them their big sister.

Wow... That is the more depressing thing ive read in a while.....lets face it.. You're right. There is no difference here.. Both neglegent... In this case though, the kids have been sent to peace and can rest.. Who knows about beautiful Madeleine.

It is confusing that people are so passionately defending these people.

I dont think anyone actually wants them to be going through this, I dont think anyone thinks its 'deserved' so to speak. What the point here is.. Is that this was an avoidable incident.. It should nt have happened...Yeah, I know, we all say 'what if' everyday..and I KNOW I MAKE MISTAKES! But I would never make that one.. How can it be justified.. Will our silence bring her back? No.. But it might open the eyes of any one else who thinks it acceptable to abandon children, and surely that is worth it...

I dont like this, I am sickened, I prayer for her everyday..

Dave,

First, there is no official report made in public about what exactly had happened that night therefore, your opinion is based on presumptions, rumours and hearsay.

Second, The McCanns have not been investigated, charged or on trial for neglect. Even if the McCanns were on trial and all the details of the case were made public, the media have an ethical responsibility not to prejudice a trial.

I don’t condone leaving young children alone and unattended, but I know little about these two cases to pass a judgment, and so do you!
I respect the law and the justice system, and so should you.

I don't know and I don't really care. After what him and Kate done they are not in the situation to support anyone after neglecting their own. I just want to see them charged with child neglect. At least they should do something good for Madeleine sake and tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth cos this is going to go on and on forever if it is not halted right now.

Its always wrong to leave children alone. That is neglect no matter what way you look at it, whether it was one night or every night. ANyone who leaves their children alone so they go out for a p**s up should be prosecuted. I cannot understand why they seem to be getting away with it yet the McCanns seem to be getting treated like celebrities. Is that what you need to do now to get your fifteen minutes of fame??

I don't see much difference in the cases. Both lots of children were left unattended, both came to harm EXCEPT one set of parents are to be prosecuted and the other set are revered as saints and making money as they go. Gerry won't associate himself with these women in any way, you never know, some of the American public might just twig that actually, he's as guilty of child neglect as they are!

And all for one beer!!!??? Totally shocking.

I don't think there is any difference between the two cases. In other peoples minds though there is a difference because they feel that because another person is involved (an abductor) then the McCanns are relieved of responsibility.

Personally I disagree. An abductor, an abuser, a fire, an accident, sudden illness etc etc are all things that we should endeavour to protect our children from at all costs. To stand any chance, there must be a parent or responsible adult present in the house at all times.

Heh Gerry should face the same charges. Those children died, and poor maddy may be dead for all we know now. Instead he's being treated like a celebrity which isn't right!

Afterall, their babysitter was older than Madeleine.
So why are these mothers guilty of neglect and the McCanns are not, how could he possibly look them in the eyes?
He won't go near them.
