A good question needs a little in the way of asking for an answer, also an answer in itself, a good thought would make one think instead of demanding an answer. Yours is a good question too, it makes me think, however, I would like to elaborate on it a little to come up with somethign in terms of answering, to allow for my personal point of view to come into the public debate. Thoughts like these are expressions of genuine wonder about the general affairs of life, and possibly a way to appreciate them. It is to see, for instance, what is left in the world to consume , or to be consumed by what is in the mind as a persistent sense of deterioration. In my view, if there is one that is constantly getting worse then that is the state of human mind, as a collective sense of the people of the world. If this is so, then there must be something that is getting better in its place, and the question is, what could that thing be?
We watch everyday and hear every hour what is happening around us, and it is not getting any lesser by the day, it is ‘getting better and better everyday’ – use to be my mantra once. There are better instruments of torture and harm for the human well-being then there were ever before: warfare, appliances, contraptions and devices made for luxury and comfort of the body necessitating the need to feed the mind or soul including, and then there are ever so more effective means and method in form of media campaigns available to make sure that that sense of harm is most hurtful in its mention and that it gets to everyone on the earth. Many intelligent, influential, and highly professional people are always there to look to that.
There are many things that are getting better in place of the things that are getting worse: food, for instance, is getting better but health and well-being is deteriorating, cars, air planes, and transportation systems in general are getting better but environment is getting cluttered with pollution, facilitations for leading an independent, isolated and free life is getting better an community spirit is becoming obsolete; computers are getting better and books and words are going out of phase and fashion like the words of mouth; the quantity of information on ever informant information channels is getting better but the quality of knowledge in the mind is depreciating; rites, ritual, free-standing values, ceremonies of pomp and show and show off, are getting better but spiritual observations, and virtues are being hunted out of existence. You see there are many things that are getting better. There is no need to worry, if you have a talent for adaptation.

Altho it doesn't always seem like it, we have become a more tolerant society. There was a time when blatant racism was the norm. Minorities were segregated in every way, They even had separate drinking fountains. Gay people never came out of the closet and were ostracized, beaten and even killed if they were outed.
Women couldn't get any job that paid enuf to take care of themselves. If a women had a child out of wedlock, she was ostracized and shamed and the child was treated badly. If a woman wanted to keep her illegitimate child, she would have to move to a new town where nobody knew her and say that she was a widow.
There's lots more like this and I hope it keeps on getting better.

"Life is what you make it". Changing that is changeable and accepting that which is unchangeable in your life is key to making it better.
If you don't change you will find yourself into a repeating cycle.
If you try to change that which is unchangeable you are just coming down on yourself or feeling sorry for yourself when you fail.
Finding the balance is the key to life getting better. Understanding how it's bad is the road to the door.

We thought technology was getting better, but that created waste, laziness and greed.
I'm glad to say we have come full circle. So whjat's getting better is our understanding of how wasteful and lazy we have become and so we are strarting to have more understanding of how fragile our planet is and starting to do something about it!
Medical science is definatletly getting better. People need not die from the common cold any more, neither will they automatically die from cancer of organ problems.

Everything gets better daily! Here is a partial list:
My wife and I grow in love every day.
My children make me more proud.
My grandchildren grow and learn.
A new page to everyone's life story gets written.
The list could go on ad nauseaum! What would you have on YOUR list?

The one thing that matters to each individual that improves from day to day is personal experience. For older people with children and grandchildren then it's the experience of their children or grandchildren. With most experience comes most understanding.
