I'm a college student traveling abroad to the Meiji Gakuin campus for a semester. I'm just curious on anything in the particular area.

I lived in Yokosuka (next town over) in 1974-1976, I wish I could tell you about now but I can not.

If you get a chance to go by train to Yokuska, try to get by the U.S. Navy Base and check out the area around it, it is all very beautiful.

If While you are there you get a chance to visit another Island, try to visit Sasabo, Japan, I thank that area was the most beautiful I had ever seen.

Good Luck....

Man, I am from Yokohama. What a coincidence.lol
I was born in Yokohama and have been living there for fifteen years since then.
I highly recommend that you stop by Sakuragichou where you can buy a lot of interesting things and enjoy walking around.
Yokohama is pretty close to Tokyo so I also suggest you go to Tokyo by train.
Shibuya is a good place to visit, though there are always number of people that could be tiring. You can really get whatever you want if you've got money there.
There are a lot of places to visit.
I hope you will have a great time in Japan.
I wish I could go back to Japan.. lol

Cosmo Clock! It's a ferris wheel with a Giant clock on it near Landmark tower/Queen's landing. shopping and a small amusement park/arcade there. If you likeGarlic.. hit up a Garlic Jo's restaurant!.

other nearby places to visit(aside form Tokyo, of course) are Kamakura to see the Giant Buddha statue(and matching straw sandals) and Mikasa park in Yokosuka, where the Mikasa( the flagship of Adm Togo) has been turned into a floating msueum all about the Russo/Japanese war. the rest of the park is very nice, with an open air amphitheater and a very lovely fountain with dancing water. it's also possible tosee across the water onto Yokosuka Naval Base..although all you get is Main Street which is the main food court area.
