Bush's new executive order makes criticzing the war a crime...what next? Making criticzing him a crime? Outlaw elections? President for life?

Democracy in the United States is now officially
dead.

Your comments please.

Oh, btw I am not saying anything about the war
(can't now) and this will be my last post here,
less I get arrested by the US secret police (NSA).

Just above this is the link on the new executive order.
If you think Bush will not enforce it
...then you don't know him very well.

Blowing ***-bubbles in the bathtub is not quite the same thing as issuing an executive order . . . but, for this Prez., it's close enough.

This guy is right. Here's the scoop:

The Executive Order entitled “Blocking Property of Certain Persons Who Threaten Stabilization Efforts in Iraq” provides the President with the authority to confiscate the assets of whoever opposes the US led war.

A presidential Executive Order issued on July 17th, repeals with the stroke of a pen the right to dissent and to oppose the Pentagon’s military agenda in Iraq.

The Executive Order entitled “Blocking Property of Certain Persons Who Threaten Stabilization Efforts in Iraq” provides the President with the authority to confiscate the assets of “certain persons” who oppose the US led war in Iraq:

“I have issued an Executive Order blocking property of persons determined to have committed, or to pose a significant risk of committing, an act or acts of violence that have the purpose or effect of threatening the peace or stability of Iraq or the Government of Iraq or undermining efforts to promote economic reconstruction and political reform in Iraq or to provide humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi people.”

In substance, under this executive order, opposing the war becomes an illegal act.

This isn't to far off track. Bush currently has the power under the Patriot Act to suspend the 2008 elections if the country is in a state of emergency (which we currently are). There's a lot of stuff he's been pushing through congress in fine print that many people aren't aware of. It's pretty scary with what he has done with our international image.

America is not a democracy. It is a constitutional republic, a system where the U.S. Constitution is the supreme law and citizens elect representatives to government.

Democracy, by contrast, designates a system of government where the will of the majority rules, unrestricted by any law. The Founders of the United States of America went to great measures to ensure that our new nation was not a democracy.

So from what I read it simply means that your property may be seized if you are found to be supporting a terrorist group.
The scary part about that is that the patriot act never really defined terrorist group. According to that document greenpeace and any other organization that protests could be considerd a terrorist organization.
Honestly, I dont think anyone in the bush administration is smart enough to know that they have put laws into place that suspend our republic and put a dictator in power. I pray that none of them figure it out.

If you think that people are going to go to jail for saying they don't like the war in Iraq, you're an idiot. In fact, I'll bet you a hundred dollars that I can walk around with a sign saying "US out of Iraq" at a local college for a whole day with nothing happening to me as a result.

Research the REAL censorship of soviet communism and alleviate your ignorance.

Sounds like the actions of a dictator.

And Americans still claim to be "land of the free"!! Makes you laugh. He'll be employing a Gestapo soon and putting people in concentration camps for disagreeing with him.

Sorry I've said it before and I'll say it again. If thats what your "democratic" Presidential system gets you, then long live the Queen!!!!

It seems to me, from where I'm sitting in South Africa, that we have a close neighbour over here with much the same symtoms as your American president. Ever heard of Mugabe? Look to Zimbabwe if you as Americans want to know where a mentality like Bush's is going to lead your country. My prayers are with you.

There is no such official exec. order...

This statement was made by Mr. Bush in a colloquial setting and is by no means an official order...

Stop misquoting the president at least, for heaven's sake.

there is a big difference between criticizing the war and releasing national secrets. So the premise of your question is false.

When they were out there not at their own whims and fancy but for the good of mankind.
Thanks to all of them out there.
Doing a great job.
In holding the fort.
Will try to get the yellow ribbon for you all out there.
