I'm sure that there are very knowledgeable baseball fans in every state and even overseas. When I'm in SF's AT&T Park or Oakland's Network Associates Stadium, most of the "fans" are too young to know history of the Giants and Athletics and people are too busy talking on their cell phones to notice there's a baseball game going on.
Down south in LA, Anaheim and SD, all the fans that contribute to Yahoo Answers have that "Gang" mentality and don't know anything about baseball, so California should not be counted.

New York of course. It has the most history and has had the most teams. The state is rich with great baseball history.
New York Yankees - Babe Ruth
New York Mets - Tom Seaver
New York Giants - Bobby Thomson
Brooklyn Dodgers - Jackie Robinson
And so many more.

Wackybass I wish I could agree with you (anyway it's Massachusetts), but all you have to do is listen to your fellow New Englanders calling in to WEEI with proposed trades to understand that most of us Red Sox fans never got out of kindergarten. And I am one of them. Just by virtue of the fact that there are Athletics, Giants, Dodgers, Angels and Padres as well as the Pacific Coast League (AAA) and the California League (A), California has to have more knowledgeable baseball fans than the population of Massachusetts. More stupid ones too probably, but that wasn't the question.

I'd love to say Illinois, but I can't. We have too many "cub fans" here and they are all morons. I can't say New York because they are mostly morons as well. So I will go with Philadelphia.
