I doubt they will give you cash back.
When you paid by cheque, Im sure they would have asked you for a cheque guarentee card, which is linked to their cheque on their systems.
When they give you a refund, the money will most likely be refunded to the card.

if its a charity shop im not sure theyll even give a refund and to be honest6 you might have a nightmare on your hands there as they may have to refund you in cash but youll have to wait until ur check clears-id phone them as soon as they open today and ask them as you paid by cheque have they not cashed it yet as you would appreciate if you could return the camera and have the cheque back.
or another option is if it doesnt saY on ur receipt how u paid then just go in and pretend you paid cash and theyll refund you in cash.
You could cancel the cheque if you need to but to be honest 9times out of 10 this costs you and itl probably be more than you were paying for the camera!
good luck

Return the camera and check the position of the cheque, it may not have been banked. If it has he can refund by cheque once your cheque has been cleared. You can cancel the cheque with the bank but that will not make you popular and may incur a charge.

The first thing to do is to take the camera back to the shop , they may replace it , then if you are not happy , they will be able to advise you as to what to do , as stopping a cheque while you still have the camera is not legal

Normally they would simply swap the camera for another one ... however since you say you tested it, I assume it is 'second hand' ..
They could offer you a similar item (with price adjustment) or refund your money.
Since you paid by cheque, I would expect them to make a refund direct to your bank .. however larger places will just hand over cash (less work for them).

take it back to the shop and tell them you want a refund, don't cancel the check through the bank because some banks charge 30 dollars to cancel a check. just tell them at the place where you bought it you are not satisfied with the purchase.
