Question: I've seen huge spiders that run fast in my 32 year old home (I'm scared of spiders) I did became brave and caught one of them. How can I tell if it's a hobo spider or a house spider? Do they look a like? Are they poisonous? I do have pets in the house. That's why I'm asking. My pets are very curious. Is there away to kill them (without harming my pets)? Honest please.

Since Tegenaria agrestis (Hobo) and Tegenaria domestica (House) look rather similar, you probably will not be able to easily tell the difference. Better to take whatever you can catch to your local University or extension office and see if they can do an ID for you. I don't off-hand know if Montana is in the known range of agrestis, but it's in that vicinity, so it might be good to check. As to pets - you know, I don't recall ever reading about any bad pet reactions that could be traced to spider bites. That might be worth exploring.

NO ONE!!! I don't want to sound like a Hippy or anything but i actually catch them and chuck them outside. The only person that's scared of spiders in my house is my hubby! The kids love them but want to play with them, and as their only 1 and 3 they can end up squishing the poor things. Don't forget spiders do us a service by eating flys and other icky germ filled flying things. Their good to have around.
