Is it a Yucca? That is a large plant that grows in the southwest. It will get huge. It has sharp thorns on each large limb. I call them limbs because they are thick and wide. It will have a very tall stalk which grows out of the middle of the plant. This stalk will have creamy colored flowers on it.

They grow quite well in Arizona. I wouldn't plant it under a tree. If you don't want something about 5-6 feet wide and 15-20 feet tall, you may want to reconsider planting it.
