Close. It means F you. It's a European thing. I lived in Germany for eight years, they do it too. Europe came up with it before they ever used it on Friends I'm sure.

it most likely represented a conflict. bumping heads. it meant that if you marry my daughter, you would have been in hell, since she'll be your mother in law.
