Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. New Moon is the second, and Eclipse will be out August 7th. Don't let the vampires scare you away. Read these. You won't regret it.
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. Pretties is number 2, Specials is number 3, and Extras will be out October 2. Sci-fi. You get an operation when you're sixteen that turns you "pretty." It makes you look like everyone else.
A Great and Terrible by Libba Bray. Rebel Angels is number 2. The Sweet Far Thing will be out December 26th. Victorian times, fantasy, and has a little bit of everything. Excellent.
Not a fantasy or sci-fi series, but Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard is brilliant. Give it a try.
The Wind Singer, Slaves of the Mastery, and Firesong by William Nicholson. Wonderful, under rated series.

You should try the Artemis Fowl series. In the first book, he's twelve years old and he's a criminal mastermind, and he kidnaps a fairy. In the fifth book, he's 15 and he's still a genius... It's a really good series, although nothing can beat Harry Potter.
You can aslo try the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. It is without a doubt the best romance series.

How about the Charlie Bone series or Tamara Pierce has a few series like Circle of Magic, Protector of the Small and Alanna (probably better known as the Tortall series)?

Keepers of the Hidden Ways by Joel Rosenburg. If you liked those other books you'll like this series too. It's three books, The Fire Duke, The Silver Stone and The Crimson Sky.

Wrinkle in Time series by Madeliene L'Engle. Excellent books. See attached link. You may also enjoy the Dragonlance series (about 50 books in it lol) and I would recommend Wheel of Time.

Look at Ann McCaffrey's books which form several series.
Elizabeth Moon does some nice stuff.
