Julio Franco will play until he drops dead, probably while on the on-deck circle.

How long will that be at the major-league level? Who knows? He's still productive, and the Braves are still platooning 1B as far as I know. He's a good pinch hitter and spot-starter... so he should have no trouble finding work in the forseeable future.

He won't be the oldest position player until 2014, when he'll pass Minnie Minoso, who retired in 1980. Julio still has 5 players to pass (including Manny), none of whom played after 1934 to be the oldest position player, and 9 to be the oldest player. Satchel Paige played until he was 59, which is the oldest.

He's only about a year away from his 50th birthday - I can see him staying in the game until then.

No other player has stayed in the majors that late in life. The oldest players in MLB history were short-term publicity stunts - Minnie Minoso at the age of 54 in 1980 and Satchel Paige at 58 in 1965. Not counting those, the oldest I can find is pitcher Jack Quinn, whose last game in 1933 came 6 days after his 50th birthday.

Julio Franco will play until he is 50. I think Phil Neikro pitched into his 50's.

Jigo, keep in mind the players you mentioned who played older tha Franco made just token appearances to get their record, Franco is still playing a full season.

He might play until he is 50. He's in pretty good shape. It seems lke when he got traded from the Mets, he's been doing great. He's been involved in a lot of Atlanta Braves highlight reels on SportsCenter. I'm not sure if any other hitter ever did. Hope I could help!
