Does anyone know where in the books Ravenclaw's mascot is mentioned. I'm trying to find proof for one of my friends that it is in fact an eagle, not a raven.

It's mentioned a few times in the last book. When Harry is looking for the tiara of Rowena Ravenclaw at Hogwart's. And if I remember right when they are at Gringott's in the LeStrange vault I think Harry says to look for anything that could be an eagle belonging to Ravenclaw or Hufflepuffs mascot because he still wasn't sure what the Horcrux Bellatrix had. Also if you google Rowena Ravenclaw it should also tell you. I was reading all about the different characters a few days ago from wikipedia.

Re-read the Sorcerer's Stone. I'm pretty sure it lists all the mascots there.
NO! In Order of the Phoenix, when Luna was making all those wacky hats. She makes a lion for Gryffindor, and an eagle for Ravenclaw. It's in there. I promise.

Edit:
Kelly, you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. It's an eagle. The house is called Ravenclaw because that's Rowena Ravenclaw's last name. Just like the symbol for Gryffindor isn't a griffin, it's a lion.

The mascot of Ravenclaw is indeed an Eagle.

Excerpt from Goblet of Fire, Chapter 15, "Beauxbatons and Durmstrang":

"When they went down to breakfast on the morning of the thirtieth of October, they found that the Great Hall had been decorated overnight. Enormous silk banners hung from the walls, each of them representing a Hogwarts House: red with a gold lion for Gryffindor, blue with a bronze eagle for Ravenclaw, yellow with a black badger for Hufflepuff, and green with a silver serpent for Slytherin. Behind the teachers' table, the largest banner of all bore the Hogwarts coat of arms: lion, eagle, badger, and snake united around a large letter H."

a simple glance at the Hogwart's crest would have cleared that up too.

It might be in the first book, but I'm not sure. I think I remember reading something about that in the first book. So check it out, and I'm sorry if I'm wrong. But I think that's where it is.

Try the HP Lexicon. It gives info on the symbol of the house both under the Ravenclaw house section and under Rowena Ravenclaw, co-founder of Hogwarts and the woman the Ravenclaw house at Hogwarts is named for.

I'm pretty sure you're right. They mention it at a Quidditch match, I believe. Probably in Order of the Phoenix because Luna is in that one.

this last book - the chapter titled The Lost Diadem, I think. it's probably mentioned in the first book as well, when they introduce all the houses, but I can't really remember.

I know I saw it online somewhere and was pretty surprised because of the name. But it says so on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ravenclaw#Ravenclaw

And we all know that Wikipedia is God XP
