It's been pretty firmly established for a long time that he was RIGHT wing.
Anyone saying different is engaging in sophistry. They are trying to rewrite History to identify an ideology they don't like with Hitler.
Similar to when they say Hitler was an atheist. It is part of the record that he was Catholic during most of his life although he ended his life as a pagan. He makes numerous references in his speeches to God and to crushing communism!
Hitler was Right Wing! It's not even seriously debatable!

Hitler was an authoritarian right-wing fanatic, that used socialism as a tool to unite the people of Germany, and consolidate power under his regime.

Hitler sqaushed dissent, made gays disappear, interpretted religion as fit his agenda, and wanted to force those beliefs on everyone else in a globalist fashion....yup that is right-wing.

and where does the protection of personal liberty come in that is the core of liberal ideology? I think someone better hit he history books instead of the talk-radio.

He was a Fascist. Like Mussolini in Italy (IL Duce). They were extreme right-wing. They hated (in no particular order) Jews, Gypsies, Romas, Eastern Peasants, Gays, Russians basically anybody that wasn't Aryan though he didn't mind the English and French and Americans. If you were from the East according to Hitler you were sub-human. He passed a law that when a German marriage was to take place they had to prove their Aryan ancestry. Any trace of Jewry in their past and whooosh! Off to the concentration camp and the wedding presents sent back. The hypocrisy of this was that Goebbels his propaganda minister was part Jew. Wonders what money can do eh ?

Far-right politics or extreme-right politics are right-wing politics to the right of the mainstream centre right on the traditional left-right spectrum. They often involve a focus on tradition as opposed to policies and customs that are regarded as reflective of modernism. They tend to include disregard or disdain for egalitarianism, if not overt support for social inequality and social hierarchy, elements of social conservatism and opposition to most forms of liberalism and socialism. The terms are commonly used to describe fascism, neo-fascism and other ideologies or organizations that feature extreme nationalist, chauvinist, xenophobic, racist, or reactionary views.[1] Some far-right movements, such as the NAZIS, have pursued oppression and genocide against groups of people on the basis of their alleged inferiority or their alleged threat to the nation or state. - wikipedia

Hitler was a reactionary, thus right wing. Hyper-conservative and hyper-nationalist views. Although summing up Hitler and the Nazi party in three sentences is sort of ignorant.

Fascism by definition is right wing. The Nazis added the 'racial' equation to the mix and downplayed the 'religious' aspect of it. Germany was mostly 'state and industry' centered. Fascist Italy downplayed the racial aspect and cut several deals with the Catholic church to keep the Pope out of the picture as much as possible. The Facists in Italy were 'state and industry' centered as was Germany. Spain under Franco had little of the racial element, but had strong ties to business, landowners and the Catholic Church. Fascist governments in south America centered more on the state, church and powerful landholders.

Hitler was a national socialist and that is left wing. People think that his nationalism shows that he was right wing but the Soviet Union used nationalism. Hitler did not take over the businesses but he did tell them what they would be producing. A car maker had better produce armored personnel carriers. Hitler followed the rules set down by Marx on controlling the population including controlling the press and gun confiscation.
and to avail_skillz, gays were an intregral part of the Nazi moment in the early days. They and their leader Ernest Rhoem were eliminated when they became an embarassment.

I would have to say he was right wing, one of the few tyrants of the 20th century to be so. A utterly psychotic religious nut who thought he was doing God's work to purify the world.

Right-wing == conservative.

Not that all conservatives are fanatics.

But authoritarian rule is by definition opposed to civil liberties and personal freedoms and diversity -- which are the core values of the liberal philosophy.

So, given that Hitler was authoritarian, and thus was opposed to civil liberties and personal freedoms (and assuming liberal == left), then by definition he must have been right-wing.

The Gestapo and Third Reich monitored and attempted to control everything and everyone.

It was a system of large government so, if you look at that one facet of Nazi Germany, which is most often used to define the differences between libs and conservatives, you could not deny that it was a liberal state.

EDIT: Anyone who has studied Hitler would know that he was not above personal drug use. Quite funny that that characteristic was used to define a liberal by a liberal here.
