1. Make sure it is seated properly, tight and snug in its slot.
2. Make sure your motherboard can handle it. Some motherboards can only support 2 gigs, max, some even less.
3. 32-bit Windows cannot read more than 4 gigs of RAM (Thats a lot of RAM, anyway).

You didn't mention why kind of computer you had. If it's more than a few years old, it may not be capable of utilizing the 1GB RAM.

Something else to consider... Do you know how much RAM your computer can take? You may already be maxed out. If not, then you may want to check if the RAM module is seated corrected in the RAM slot. I have seen many issues where the RAM is not seated all the way.

Another way to check if the new RAM is working is to take out the old RAM and plug the new 1G and see if the computer recognizes it.

Good luck!

Alright, I'll cut to the chase!!!
What kinda RAM you gotta, Is it the righta stuffa, I doubta it cuzza you didn't even mention anything abouta compatibility. Likea, DDR-DRAM, DDR-SDRAM, DDR2-DRAM, DDR2-SDRAM, of course let's not forget that all-important VRAM, etc.
So, iffa you wanta getta goodda info, you gotta getta gooda advicea.
When you bought the RAM were you sure that it was the right stuff?
If it is no good then it won't show, you are lucky because some incorrect RAM can damage your comp.
Your comp showed no improvement so no damage was done.
Did you ask the store clerk to check compatibility or did you check on-line for the type of RAM your comp needs?
Search the Web for a site that will do an on-line scan and give you the correct RAM type you need.
OR, try on the run line--MSCONFIG, (I think it will show the type of RAM you require.)
Keep smiling.
