If there is no cloud cover at night it tends to be cooler because all the heat escapes from the earth's atmosphere. Clouds keep the heat in better. So a cloudy night in the summer is usually warm.

The heat dissapes into the atmosphere. The night temperature is usually drops lower than on cloudy nights. Cloud cover acts like an insulating blanket by slowing down the heat dissapation. This is why in the dessert areas the temperature difference between night and day can be very high. Extremely hot in the day and very cold at night (sometimes below freezing).

Good Luck.

The radiation from the sun heats the earth during the day. During the night the atmosphere, land, and anything heated during the day looses its heat due to radiation. During nighttime hours the heat rises and escapes through the atmosphere and back into space.

If you happen to have a cloudy night the temperatures will not drop as much compared to a cloudless night as the clouds act like a blanket and trap the heat in thus not allowing the temperature to drop as much.

I hope this answers your question!
