I would have to go with Hitler hands down...he started a war that not only caused 40 million deaths in europe, North Africa and Russia. but His War also sparked the Cold war...also if the Holocaust never happened Israel may not be a Nation right now and the Middle East may be alot more peaceful since the Muslims are in such turmoil with the Jews.

Alexander the Great would have to be number 2. He conquered world superpower Persia an that basically turned the tide in favor of Western Civilization.

I would have to say Bill Gates, I mean thanks to him and his colleague's the computer is in may home across the world, there are Internet cafes and the like as well where people go just to get on one and go on-line. Other than him I would say Hitler, but for another obvious reason. The holocaust, and this nice little war in Europe led to, Israel being reestablished, the invention of the Volkswagen Beetle, the area of the mechanized army, the spitting up of Europe after the war, and the beginning of the cold war due to his downfall one could argue. The advancements made by German scientists in the areas of rockets and so on. So I feel it could almost be a tie, yet I would pick Bill Gates over the other just based on the shear dislike and hatred of Hitler. Bill Gates seems to be a very good man. That is why I say his influence will be felt more and last perhaps longer than that of Hitler.

Bill Gates has definitely changed the world forever. Before we didn't have computers. Then when we did, they were these horrid monsterous things. Once they got small enough for a consumer, they were basically only for game use and programming. Like that of Texas Instruments and the Commodore 64. Bill Gates brought us Windows. Which turned our lives around. Making the computer what it is today. They are now so user friendly, that we rely on them for everything. From business, to personal information, to our three year olds playing with Elmo. If you aren't computer savvy in this day and age then you aren't employable period.

Gengis Khan had a huge impact on history in that he made connections between East and West.

I know you said no religious figures, but I think you would have to include Moses. He was the great lawgiver and the laws that he transmitted have impacted legal systems around the world for centuries.

Also, I think one would have to include Pasteur. He worked on projects that have increased the health of billions.
