Point 1: In an interview with GOP leaders in South Carolina, CNN reported that the GOP base is dispirited and depressed. Things have not improved for them since the 2006 elections. In fact, they are continuing to lose interest. They said that the ONLY thing they can think of that might energize their base would be Hillary winning the Democratic nomination.
Point 2: All head-to-head polls on RealClearPolitics.com show Obama and Edwards having a stronger showing against Guiliani, McCain, Romney, or Thompson than Hillary gets.
I know it's early, but the GOP hatred for Hillary isn't going to go away. Isn't it clear that the best thing Hillary could do for America is to drop out and let someone who DOESN'T energize the GOP and who has a better chance of winning the national election carry the ball?

No, she should not and will not drop out.
Point 1:
The GOP can get as energized as it wishes to, do you think that the Democratic Party doesn't know this? Do you think that the desire for a Democrat to take the place of Bush isn't so strong that the Democrats will put out equal energy to match the GOP's big surge against Hillary. I do, in fact I know they will. Also, in the general election polls, it shows ANY Democrat whomping ANY Republican, and that includes Sen. Clinton.
Point 2:
What the head to head polls show on the site I'm leaving is that Clinton and Obama are head to head on which one beats every Republican candidate. It might be worth taking into consideration that the famous poll that showed 50% of Americans would never vote for Sen. Clinton has dropped to 34% in the last few months (see #13 from the 2nd website). It's true that in the older polls, Obama had the lead against the Republican candidates, but in the latest ones she has pulled right up against him. She just keeps getting stronger.

Part of what will help energize the Democrats with Sen. Clinton as the nominee is exactly what you describe - the GOPs hatred for her. It does work both ways.

Because you can't tell anything about the general election from polls conducted at this time. I have seen a wide variety of polls and some show Senator Clinton doing better than Senator Obama against the main Republican candidates.
The reality is that there is very little left that the Republicans can do to raise Senator Clinton's negatives. What we see with her is what we are going to get as she probably has the best name recognition of all of the candidates.
The other candidates, however, the mud has yet to start flying. I am not sure whether Senator Obama, former Senator Edwards, or Governor Richardson will be more electable than Senator Clinton once the attacks begin.
It is still early in the process. Given the level of support that she has within the Democratic Party, the time for her to consider general election poll numbers will be this November, not now.

Are you all crazy? Senator Clinton is a great candidate. I am still torn between Senator Clinton and Barrac Obama . I feel either, given enough time, could repair the damage done by the present administration. Lets face it, that will take some doing. The GOP should be called the "good old rich peoples club" or "thank God they're gone" club. I'll omit the obvious acronyms for GOP but Grand Old Party is not one of them. Bottom line, I believe Senator Clinton has a better chance than the others of winning the national election and carrying the ball.

Those are really good points. I really think she should just drop out and make things easier for us Republicans.

I think they should all drop out and we should do a lottery to see who gets next president. Or like Willy Wonka, put it in a candy bar and see who gets the golden ticket. Bet those dam sweet suckers would be spending millions to get their ticket. We could make loads of money for our deficiet and then get a good average American (fix it).

Anyone is better than a Clinton. I think they need to drop off the face of the earth, go hid in retirement and be glad they were able to cover up things for as many years as they have. But, she is not going to win anyway, so why worry about it.

I was about to answer yes until I read the rest of your statement and would consider it very good given your hypothesis if Hilldog remained in the race.

She should, but she won't. She is hungry for this. I mean, that's why she married Bill in the first place- so she could get this chance.

Hillary must stay in and get the nomination to assure a republican victory in 2008. Fred Thompson will leave her in the dust.
