We have a couple that lived in one of our rentals for free for about 6 months. We did this because of a passing family member.
The problem is , they have moved but will not come and get their belongings out.The whole rental is full of their stuff.
We told them we need to clean the rental.
We told them that someone is coming to see the rental.
We told them we have rented it and the new tenants are moving in.
The guy is working weekends his wife doesn't work, so their is no reason for them to not get their stuff. I can't seem to get my husband to be more firm.
I need to come up with something that surely would get them up and moving.Does anyone have an idea of what could be said to do this?
Husband said he wouldn't say anything about legal issues because that would probably take even longer. please help.
Thank you LayLa

I have been a land lord for 30 years. Let me tell you, you are very lucky. It would take up to 3 months to get them out if you served an eviction notice, so you are ahead of the game. Send them a registered letter stating something like " Mr. so and so, this is a written acknowledgment of the conversation we had on or about (when ever) advising you, your belongings needed to be removed from (address) as agreed. In five days we will consider the property abandoned, and dispose of it. Thank you.
If your wimpy old man (well, it's true, or you wouldn't have implied it) is afraid to dump, or sell it. Put it in storage for another month. At that time, any court anywhere will consider it abandoned. Just Document all conversations and action taking.

Contact legal advice and have a lawyer write a letter stating the ramifications of them using the rental unit for storage.

You should be able to charge them a storage and removal fee.

well, honestly. if i'm not mistaken you the stuff may be legally yours depending how long they have left it and if i am correct you can just tell then go get your stuff or we will throw it out. what the time frame for that is i dunno, but i know there is one for this.
