If it dried right away you probably don't need to worry about mold. If it was alot of water (gallons) or if it was wet for a long period of time, then worry. If it was just the size of a glass, and it dried right away, don't be concerned.

Typically, mold likes to grow in dark, damp areas. You're more likely to see mold on the underside of the carpet, than the top.
Areas that get wet and stay wet, frequently, tend to attract mold... like carpeting under windows that tend to get left open, or in bathrooms.
Like the others that have answered here, I also recommend steam cleaning the carpet. If you live in a rural area, you may not be able to hire 'Stan Steemer' but most grocery stores do carry extractors (carpet cleaners) you can rent. I also recommend Resolve carpet cleaner for heavy stains or high traffic areas, it works very well.

You would have to continually soak the carpet for mold to grow. Any liquid will attract dirt, etc. and cause stains, sometimes the chemicals in the water will stain. Rent a shampooer and clean those stains away.

Yep mold can grow. It will leak through your capet and sink into the padding or flooring beneath. It will usually smell musty when you put your nose up to it. If there is mold it's best to get rid of the carpet it can cause alot of health problems.

Have it steam cleaned professionally, that should take care of all your problems, stains, smells, mold, and it will look a lot better......A professional steam cleaner does a better job than a shampoo machine. For the money that you spend on renting, and buying all the chemicals for it, spend about $20.00 more and get it done right......
That's just my opinion........

its not mold, just stains. mold is black and smells like soil or fungus.
rent a steam cleaner for a couple of bucks from the grocery store. they will sell you a bottle of special rug shampoo to go with the machine. a cheap and easy solution to spills on rugs...
