First, obtain the prime factorization of each value.
10 = 2 x 5
24 = 2 x 12
= 2 x 2 x 6
= 2 x 2 x 2 x 3
42 = 2 x 21
= 2 x 3 x 7
Your goal is to line up all common factors, and then create a single strand of factors based on all of the numbers. If that sounds confusing, just watch:
2 . . . . . . . . . x 5
2 x 2 x 2 x 3
2 . . . . . . x 3 . . . x 7
Using the columns as guides, we get
2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 5 x 7
And that, precisely, is our LCM. Multiplying it out, we get
840

First, find the lcm between two of the numbers, then a different pair.
lcm(10,24)=10*24/2=240/2 =120
lcm(24,42)=24*42/6=1008/6=168
Next, just find the lcm between those 2 numbers.
lcm(120,168)=120*168/24=
20160/24=840
My formula for lcm(a,b) is:
lcm(a,b)=a*b/gcf(a,b)
