Was anyone else besides me taken aback by this pairing? How do you think they fell in love? I wish we had gotten more back story on this!

Yeah, I remember it in the sixth book. It surprised me then, too. But there was only one scene (at St. Mungo's) that I can remember that they were together. In the sixth book, it was just Tonks looking depressed and in the seventh it was Remus being a wuss. We never got to see their dynamic and how exactly that's supposed to be feasible.

I thought they were a bit of an odd couple, since Lupin was usually quiet, calm and reserved, while Tonks was bubbly and even a little quirky, but I guess they sort of completed each other.
I was shocked when they were both killed, especially just after the birth of their son. I guess Harry and Teddy will always have that to bond over.
The thing I was most confused about was in the epilogue where it never mentioned Harry ever taking care of Teddy, even though he was his god son.
Also, I was dissapointed and surprised when they didn't mention Tonks when Harry used the resurrection stone.

I was more taken back by the fact that they were married before the start of the book. Since they were clearly a couple at Dumbledore's funeral, I wasn't shocked that they were such in book seven. But the only ones we knew of from the last book to be getting married were Bill and Fleur, so Lupin and Tonks being married already was a bit of a surprise when it seemed they hadn't been together very long.

Tonks and Lupin were together in the Half-Blood Prince. But yea Teddy's story is kind of like Harry's. I think that was the saddest part of the book when Harry resurrected Lupin and they talked about Teddy and Lupin's death.

Well, it already mentioned that Tonks had loved Lupin in the sixth book.

I was. I was so surprised that Tonks and Lupin actually got married. I was upset when they died because their story reminded me of Harry's. His parent's died while he was just a year old and he had to grow up without knowing his parents.

peruse book six carefully and you will get the clear idea.tonks appearance has become gloomy, having problems with her metamorphing, and change in patronus...if you still miss it,her clear outburst at the end of book six explain everything.it was not much, but sufficient enough for everybody to get the whole point...

That surprised me too.
I'm guessing they met through the Order perhaps, who knows.
On the today show, rowling mentioned she might do an encylcopedia of characters and go more into their backstories, so perhaps if she does it will be explained there.
