I have family who live in the U.S.A. and they work so hard, but are finding the economy in a bad way...............house prices etc. Also the healthcare system there is not good.
As I see it the country is great if you are very wealthy, but difficult if you are just an average family trying to raise a family and get ahead in life.
Americans are very positive people and that's one thing I love about your country.
The politics are seriously dangerous and that is a concern.
Also crime seems to be a huge problem.
Over-all I would not like to live there, prefer New Zealand, although we to have our problems.
The whole world is having major problems, really.
You say,"God Bless America". I say "God Bless the world".
I have been to the U.S.A. but this was 17 years ago & it seems to have gone downhill a lot since then.
But, to be sensible, everywhere is challenged, now. Fuel prices and costs of most things.
Let's hope Love and common-sense will start happening!

From what I have gathered over my 20 years of travel, that most people in the world love Americans and hate our government.

Where I live now, in China, Americans are highly sought out. But to a person no one likes our government, especially Bush.

On the other hand, while they didn't like our government when Clinton was in power, they thought very highly of him. And considered the whole Monica thing to be stupid, yet forgivable.

Also, I think the hatred of our government has increase considerably since Bush came into power. Especially in the aftermath of the way our country handled 911.

What if China invaded two countries because a few nuts slammed a plane into the Summer Palace? And those nuts had little, if any connection to the governments and countries our country invaded?

Time to put things in perspective..........because I know many of you, especially the most ardent war supporters would demand we nuke Beijing.

Peace

Jim

Amongst the many Australians and Indochinese people I mix with they dislike America for a number of reasons.
1) The US government since the end of WW-2 has been instrumental in starting numerous wars around the world, has been instrumental in a large number of coups against legal and democratically elected democracies and then installing right-wing dictatorships.
2) The US has been involved in the Drug trade in many countries around the world. In Burma with the Kuomintang (ex Chinese Nationalist soldiers who fled from China in 1949); The Laotian government, especially the Meo and the Corsican Mafia during the late 1950's through to 1975 when the Communist Pathet Lao took control of the country; In southern Vietnam with the ARVN government which they installed and with the Corsican Mafia from 1948 until 1975; In Thailand with many of the Drug Lords; In Afghanistan with the anti-communist Mujahadeen who they financed in their fight against the Soviet Occupation-- some of whom they are now fighting against; With a number of the Cocaine Drug Lords in several of the South American countries, especially when financing coups against legitimate governments; In France with the Corsican Mafia and of course, their connection with the Italian Mafia since 1943. Most of these connections are CIA connections.
3) The Foreign Policy of the US since WW-2 has been aggressive, anti-democratic and war-like. It has, as mentioned above, led to a number of conflicts -- Supporting the French during the First Indochina War, starting the Second Indochina War, Korea, Panama, Grenada, Gulf War-2 plus the many minor conflicts in South America, Africa etc.
4) The Americans are Gun Crazy. Few other countries in the world have access to guns so freely as Americans.
5) Americans are so insular. They know very little about other countries, their religions and cultures. They are also ignorant of their own modern history and how the US has caused problems around the world.
6) Americans believe they believe in democracy whilst their governments (both State and Federally) are undemocratic in what they do, and the US electoral system is extremely undemocratic compared with many countries in Europe, Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
7) American culture, which is spreading around the world at an alarming rate, is appalling. It is money-hungry and greedy, unsympathetic to the underdog in any situation.

The list can go on. There are a few good things about the US. It has a good cinema industry, a good motor car industry and a good Research and Development system at universities and some excellent universities in the world.

The sad thing is that the most visible Americans are the ones who create an image of us to other countries....and they don't like what they see. George Bush and Dick Cheney have managed to promote hatred of the US in an unprecedented way. This war has escalated the hatred, especially from our allies who have been forced to send their own troops in harms' way. Also, there is a lot of jealousy of our standard of living, and that has prevailed for yearsl. Do you listen to our neighbor to the north? Even Canada has turned bitter toward us! Very, very sad!!!

the libraries are good. there are problems with healthcare and unemployement downsizing of people but not of buildings. if costs were to be saved the buildings could be made smaller thus saving on electricity.that is the downside. the good side nature preserves. beatifull scenary much like that further north. an appealing markett in Seattle and museum . music is good like that. buildings of seattle. do not think much of the politicians but no one does anywhere. the statueof liberty and all that. culture immersed in war but again so are others.

In general the foreigners I've met generally like Americans and the US--mention that you're from San Francisco and they'll go on about how much they'd like to visit. However they tend to strongly dislike Bush and US foreign policy.

Nice place but you need a new leader I don't care if they are democrat or republican just someone who doesn't remind us of Forrest Gump.
We have just had 7000 sailors visit our Aussie shores and they had a great time and you can be proud of them all, they caused no dramas and fitted in nicely.
