Look at the historical prescedence. How long were we in Japan and Germany before we felt that they were able to function effectively and turned over full control to them. This isnt a short term proposition. We started it, now we have a responsibility to finish it in a manner that will leave those people in as good as or better condition than we found them in. That means they get a functioning government before we leave. We dont just say "sorry", bug out, and leave them to a colapsed economy, anarchy, starvation, and the tender mercies of a bunch of wannabe warlords and islamo-fascist tyrants.

If the Dems let us stay there at least until 2010, because at the current outlook right now that is how long at the earlies the Iraqi government will be able to stand up for itself.

1. At least until 2009.
2. Until we run out of money.
3. Until Iraq is a free and a democratic nation like that big shinning house on the top of the hill.

Until 2009 at the earliest....

Other than that it depends on who gets elected in 2008.
We could be there for years or decades...

And I'm referring to presence in force -- not just having a military base there the way we do in Germany or Okinawa.

I personally think the Iraqi government will vote us out around 2008. Something about Iraqi public opinion if you know what I mean.

Sorry to ruin the surprise but we will never leave. Our presence in Iraq creates hatred, hatred means people will want to kill us, as long as people want to kill us we will not leave. Ergo we will never leave.

Did we leave Korea? Did we leave Germany? Did we leave Japan?
