AstroSystems offers truss dob kits - http://www.astrosystems.biz/ . Aurora Precision - http://www.aurorap.com/index.html - can provide you with individual components. If you're serious about building a telescope you'd be better off joining the atm mailing list at http://www.atmlist.net/ rather than asking questions here.

With or without a mirror?

Truthfully, you can't do better than a Meade 12 inch lightbridge for $1,000. The mirrors are 1/6 wave and the diagonals are 1/10 wave. They are trussed and portable. Look at mine at

If you give up the truss, the best bang for the buck is Orion's 12 inch with computerized object locator.

The truth is: Taiwan's builders deliver a completed scope and can beat the price of any American manufacturer of kits. American builders will claim higher quality, but it just ain't true. the Chinese mirrors are great. They are annealed borosilicate glass (like Pyrex) and are high quality figure on both the main mirror and the diagonal.

A complete 16 inch, truss tube Meade LightBridge costs less ($2,000) than a 12.5 inch truss kit from an American manufacturer (if the kit has a mirror.)

Look at http://www.dobsonian.com/ to see what is available worldwide.
