The ones that immediately come to mind for me are Mums (of course), Cardinal flowers, Delphiniums, and Asters. There are plenty of others that are blooming in early fall and some up until frost. Try the advanced plant search at Better Homes and Gardens:
http://www.bhg.com/bhg/plantfinder/search/pfAdvanceSearchForm.jsp

you can also try the search tool at : http://www.mobot.org/gardeninghelp/plantfinder/Search.asp

or check the publications of your Extension Service. Many have their publications available online.

I planted bush sage and pineapple sage last year, and it was gorgeous in the fall. Sadly, it's only an annual where I live, but they looked amazing when backlit by the sun.

Sasanqua camellias bloom in the fall and early winter here.

Some ornamental grassses have very pretty seedheads that look lovely in the fall.

I also enjoyed my asters last fall.

Some azalias, roses, camelias, tulip trees, a million kinds of annuals...go to your plant store and check out what they are selling so you can match colors. You are in luck because there are lots of them. I like the orange, yellow and red plants for annuals.
