I am in a situation where behind closed doors, I was told by my company ," We really do not want an OSHA. If you work w/ us we will look out for you , BUT you have to do what you think is best." Nudge, wink. I have just gotten the job and I am not protected by the union. It has been 5 days now, and none of my superiors have given an ounce of comfort about my job.I am left in LIMBO. My peers on the other hand are very upset w/ how I am being treated. What to do ?

Politics be damned!
That smell is your flesh rotting from infection.
No matter what else is going on, you need a doctor.
Why OSHA? Are you a dog-handler?

Your soon to be x employer is in DEEP trouble for this. You have the right to worker's compensation if this happened on the job. They cannot fire you for filing a claim, and can be sanctioned by the attorney general for trying to stop you from filing a claim.

To file your workers comp claim, get the forms from your employer. Again, they can NOT fire you for filing a claim. Get you and your pseudomonis infected arm to a doctor NOW. If they give you any crud, report them to OSHA.

Since you just got the job, you have nothing to lose. You will be paid during any period of disability under the rules that apply to worker's comp in your state. They MUST give you your job back when you are cleared for work, and cannot retaliate in any way when you come back.

Finally, if you are that concerned about the job and want some assurance as to what to do, call a worker's comp attorney as soon as the sun breaks tomorrow morning and explain what happened. They will not charge you for a counsultation. You do not have to pay them for anything they do. They will tell you EXACTLY what needs to be done in your state, and will make sure you get to a doctor immediately.

The employer is clearly in the wrong here. But you can lose your arm...or your life...if you dont take care of business here. And if that happens, you have nobody to blame but yourself. GET IT DONE.

If they are so worried about OSHA then they know they are in the wrong. Your health is not worth this. You could be doing permanent damage to yourself.

*Go see a doctor - call off sick and go ASAP
*Go see a lawyer for a free consultation about your rights and options.

If you were bitten and the wound stinks, it is most likely infected.
Go seek proper medical attention before worrying about anything else!

is there someplace you would be better appreciated?

money is important - respect is also important - don't let these blood suckers drain you.

peer support is important but someone higher up feels threatened by you. five days isn't much - perhaps you could have a talk - but always have a plan B - always.

I don't know where you were bitten, but I assume it was the leg. Would you rather lose your leg or your job. You can't get another leg, but you can get another job. GO TO THE DOCTOR!
